The next steps towards a more sustainable world – who must do what?

Connie Hedegaard

Since the Brundtland Report came out back in 1987, the world has accepted the polluter’s pay principle. Yet, we are very far from realizing this and more is needed in order to tackle our environmental, climate and sustainability challenges. Which further steps are needed – and who needs to take them? What must the politicians and regulators do next? What is our role as business and investors? And which responsibility lies with the citizens and consumers?

Ms. Hedegaard was the European Commissioner for Climate Action from 2010 to 2014, during which she led the negotiations towards the adoption of the EU 2030 Climate and Energy Framework. As EU Commissioner, she was also responsible for the 2050 Roadmap for moving to a low carbon economy and represented the EU in the international climate negotiations. With two decades of experience in international and domestic executive policy making, Connie Hedegaard is today assuming several key positions in support of a low-carbon and green economy.
